A mosquito-borne infection that was first isolated in the Zika Forest of Uganda in 1947, the Zika virus was practically unheard of until the 2015 when an outbreak occurred in Brazil. The outbreak received a lot of publicity because of the coming 2016 World Olympics. Unlike other mosquito-born diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever, west Nile virus and Japanese encephalitis, there was little or no information about the Zika virus. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you can be bitten by the Zika or Aedes species mosquito at any time of the day or night, and there is no vaccine or medicine to combat the bite.
